REGGIES- 5 NIGHT MARWAR SAFARI EXPERIENCE
hrough my ancestral lineage (the Maharajah's of Jodhpur) I have always had a passion for the outdoors; the wildlife, the scenery, fishing and the thrill of the hunt. Safaris and their various modes of transport whether Camel, Jeep, Elephant or Horse allows one to really explore deserts and jungles. You can witness at first hand stunning scenery and wildlife as well as creating the opportunity to meet the fascinating tribal people, all of which India and particularly MARWAR has in abundance.
I have been fortunate enough to establish a business doing what I love best, recreating and creating memorable Safari experiences in the great Indian Outdoors! It has always been my dream to share these experiences with seasoned travellers in pursuit of a unique adventure. I have therefore designed THE MARWAR TOUR - this safari is 'one for the books' - a TRUE BLUE safari as it was done in the good old days. A safari to accentuate the magnificence of the kingdom of MARWAR.
MARWAR-which means Land of Death (as nothing could be grown in this arid desert land), was tamed by my ancestors. Marwar was never a rich Kingdom; however we were very rich in culture and known for our hospitality. Our clan the Rathores of Marwar had a flair of doing things in style. Any dignitary coming to India was sure to come to our small town of Jodhpur whether it was for Polo, hunting or Safaris. In fact the word Safari comes from our language "Safar Karno" which means to travel. The British went out on Safaris with our ancestors and later took the concept to Africa. Jodhpur in the old days was known as the fashion capital of the east - incidentally "Jodhpurs"-the riding pant is a traditional garment of our clan.
Please note we travel with our own tents and paraphernalia so the maximum number of people we can take on this Safari is eight with a minimum of two. The tour convoy consists of a full safari staff and a fleet of vehicles including a truck which will carry the tents and all supplies.
Day 1. Pick up from Jodhpur airport. Drive for approximately an hour and a half to the camel post from where a 2 hour Camel ride will take you to your private tented camp.
Day 2. This morning mount camels and ride to - 'Reggie's Camel Camp' at Osian. While on safari you will be stopping at tribal villages, seeing potters, weavers etc. Lunch will be enroute, by the Oasis at Khetasar village. Night at Reggie's Camel Camp.
Day 3. Post breakfast drive to the magnificent Mehrangarh fort. Later proceed for lunch and stay at the Umaid Bhawan Palace (regular palace room- a supplement will be charged for the Maharaja, Maharani Suite etc). Afternoon and evening at leisure.
Day 4. Today the convoy leaves for Jawai Dam (near Bera) – 3 and 1/2 hours drive. Lunch with Thakur Baljeet Singh of Bera (Cheiftan) at his ancestral home while the private camp is set up in the bush. Evening leopard safari. Dinner and Night at the private tented camp.
Day 5. The last leg of the Safari we drive to the famous Ranakpur Jain temples. After which reach in time for Lunch at The Mountabatten Lodge. Later in the afternoon head out on a short Elephant Safari for a Champagne sunset. (Would recommend the guests stay an extra day/night and do the Elephant Safari next morning towards Kumbalgarh Fort with a Picnic lunch by the fort). Night at The Mountbatten Lodge.
Day 6. Drive to Udaipur . (Guest will have their car pick them up from the Marwar/Mewar (Udaipur) border near The Mountbatten Lodge, as our services end in Marwar).
We are also happy to CUSTOMISE the Marwar Experience according to your time availability and Safari preference. The Safari tour would have to be a minimum of 3 nights-which could be:
